Definition:
The outcome of stories is different than what the audiences was expecting.
Examples:
1) In the Avengers: Infinity War, the ending wasn't like any other movies which were good guys defeats bad guys. But in Infinity War, Thanos, the antagonist, Were winning at the end. Which I think very were very shocked and surprised about the end.
2) In Star Wars: Force Awakens, at the half way of the movies, there is a scene that chocked everyone which is when Kylo Ren stabbed his own Father Han Solo.
